What’s the most awesome thing you’ve ever done?

// September 4th, 2008 // Life (and the living of it), Love, Strange Nervous Laughter

Now, before I begin, I would like to add a disclaimer: I hate the word awesome. Really do not like it one little bit. I like the original meaning of it, the awe-inspiring slant. But then teenage skaters got hold of it and ruined it for me. It stopped being awesome, started being ahsum!

Still, for the sake of this post, let’s pretend awesome still means breath-taking, amazing, impressive.
What’s the most awesome thing you’ve ever done?

I’ll tell you why I ask: I’ve been nominated as one of thirty Cosmo Awesome Women 2008. Cosmo, as in Cosmopolitan magazine. Which is obviously a huge honour, and I’m still trying to figure out why exactly they chose me! Still, they did, and I’m very pleased… except that there’s this questionnaire you have to fill in, and one of the questions is, you guessed it, ‘What’s the most awesome thing you’ve ever done?’

And I’m stumped!
I mean, obviously the thing I’m supposed to say is that it was publishing my first novel at 25. Or getting an overseas publishing contract for said novel. But is that the most awesome thing I’ve ever done? What about recovering from extremely-late-diagnosed diabetes? Or changing my life as a result of my diagnosis? What about learning to scuba dive 2 months after being in ICU? Or maybe I’m on the wrong tack completely. Maybe the most awesome thing I’ve done is falling in love after having my heart broken. Learning how to be alone. Committing to living the life of my dreams.

Because really, shouldn’t the most awesome thing you’ve ever done have changed you, profoundly, in some way? What do you think?

Please let me know, and let me know the most awesome thing you’ve ever done… as soon as possible! My deadline is tomorrow. Eek!

I definatly think that you have a point! The most awesome thing in my opinion would have changed you as a person, for me its accepting that I am who i am and I cannot be like “her” or “him” etc. So for me the most awesome thing i have done is accept myself.

  2. You are … awesome!
